How to enable cron log in Ubuntu (cron.log in /var/log)

Yeah, it’s very annoying to have alltogether cron logs with the rest of the system messages, right?

I don’t know why Ubuntu took that policy, but in busy servers it can be hard to mantain such a log. I think they aimed for simplicity, since a good configured cron should not send many log messages.

However, if you want to see the file cron.log appear, follow this easy steps

The following steps will enable the cron log to allow for better debugging details.

  1. Edit /etc/syslog.conf and uncomment the line starting withcron.*
  2. Run /etc/init.d/sysklogd restart
  3. Run /etc/init.d/cron restart

Ok, That’s All!
